Our Business Partner: Gardening
Business Owner: Musa Kawu
Business Location: GRA Anguwan Shugaba. Gun I Village – Bauchi State
Story of the Business
Leadership Initiatives and the International Business Internship Program have allowed Musa to expand his business and achieve greater financial independence. Musa is currently working with students in the International Business Internship Program to develop new gardening designs, expand his advertising, and learn new financial management methods.
About the Owner: Musa Kawu
After struggling to find employment, Musa found an apprenticeship with a landscaper in 2004. Though he did not intend to work there for long, Musa soon developed a passion for gardening and demonstrated great commitment to his work. Musa then found a position with the Bauchi Cosmopolitan Cleaners, where he expanded his skill in landscaping and completed hundreds of jobs over the eight years he worked there. However, Musa wanted more independence. Using all the money he saved up while working, Musa opened his own gardening business in Bauchi, Nigeria.
Musa now has two employees and hopes to employ more from his local community. Although Musa never had the opportunity to attend school, owning his own business has allowed him to afford the education for all four of his children and his wife, who recently graduated with a degree in education. Musa hopes his hard work will create a more beautiful community for everyone to live in. His gardening business directly benefits over 15 people in his wider community.
