My name is Christopher Karle. I live in Ridgefield, Connecticut and will be graduating from Immaculate High School in 2022. I am passionate about health, wellness, and sustainability, so I founded Head2Toe where we donate hand-knitted baby hats to hospitals and community centers to support the health of infants; made adult hats from recycled cloth to improve the wellness of the homeless through the Midnight Run Organization; and recycle gently used shoes to Soles4Souls to outfit people in poverty-stricken areas both domestically and internationally. I received the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Student Leadership Award for my diplomacy, ability to work with others, willingness to take on challenges, and ability to honor commitments (2018). I am an active member of Lions Heart, a community service based group, where I have earned both the Bronze and Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award for 50 and 100+ hours of service respectively (2017, 2018). I have also been a Peer Mediator for 3 years. Athletically, I am a member of the GMS Rowing Club. Learning to row has taught me perseverance, hard work, and teamwork. I strive to use my knowledge and skills to work collaboratively with my team and our business partner. I am honored to work with the International Business Internship Program and to participate in the International Leadership and Business Summit in order to provide creative solutions to our Nigerian partners
Our Business Partner: Gardening
Business Owner: Musa Kawu
Business Location: GRA Anguwan Shugaba. Gun I Village – Bauchi State
Story of the Business
Musa started gardening with her first employer, Mr. Mamud from Jigawa State. Musa met Mamud in Bauchi when he came for landscaping in 2004. He was with Mr. Mamud for six months, but his commitment to work and his love for flowers attracted him to his second employer, who taught him all he knows about gardening. Because of his continued hard work, he later got an employment as a gardener with the Cosmopolitan cleaners in Bauchi. Musa began work as a janitor, eventually expanding his work to gardening with Bauchi Cosmopolitan cleaners, where he then met a man by the name of Esan. Mr. Esan, seeing Musa’s commitment and passion in the job, he picked interest in him. Mr. Esan didn’t just taught Musa how to tend to flowers alone but also taught him how to fix the machines he was working. Since then he has worked as a gardener for 8 years and has worked for over a hundred people, but has now made the decision to open his own business to be more independent and better support his family.
