My name is Emma Mathes and I am a junior in high school at Faith Lutheran. I have been blessed with so much--loving family and friends, food on the table and a roof over my head--that I feel called to give back through service. As a Christian, I have a passion for leading worship in song through my participation in praise band as a singer both at school and at my church. I also love working with children--playing with them, leading them, and caring for them.

As I mentioned, Praise Band is one of my favorite activities that I take part in school. The family that our band forms through our shared love of music and Jesus Christ is truly special and holds a significant place in my heart. I also participate in leadership groups such as the Visiting Students Ambassadors group, Peer Mentoring, and Link. These groups have really helped me build my leadership skills. I am also a member of the Faith Conservatory of the Fine Arts as a Theatre Performance major, in which I participate in the plays and musicals put on at our school, and a member of the Chamber Singers, an acapella choral group. Music has always been a big part of my life and I love every opportunity I get to share the wonderful gift that it is with others.

I am so excited to be a part of the IBIP Program because I believe that through it real change can be made. I think that it is so cool that young people nationwide are participating in this program to bring not only assistance but dignity to struggling businesses around the world. This kind of unity is what will make the world a better place, socially and economically. I am grateful to be a part of this program with such an amazing, driven team and I look forward to finding solutions, building global relationships, and bringing positive change to our world today.

Class of 2020

My name is Stephanie Vancura and I am currently a junior at Faith Lutheran High School. All my life I had had a passion for working with children, teaching and guiding them through all aspects of life. A goal that I have is to make the world a better place, and I believe that it can start with even something as small as a smile. Even if I never get the chance to change the world, I hope that I can help influence and be someone for young students to rely on.

Through coaching middle schoolers in soccer and doing technical work on middle school musicals, I get to interact with students who are younger and less experienced than me. The friendships and tight bonds that I form with many of them continue on when they go up to high school. Another passion I have is singing, which is why I am in the Conservatory of the Fine Arts at Faith Lutheran. There is a saying, “When words fail, music speaks,” which I agree with and is my philosophy about music. I believe that music can impact people stronger at times than simple words or phrases can. By being a part of my high school’s choir, I am able to get perspective on things in life that I don’t think I could find anywhere else.

I am truly excited to be a part of the International Business Internship Program with the rest of my team. It is amazing that we get the opportunity to help others in need, especially around the world. By working to help change the life of someone across the globe, I am also gaining perspective and lessons from the experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to help people in a unique way that is not found anywhere else.

Class of 2022

My name is Lyla Miller and I am currently a freshman at Faith Lutheran. I have a true passion for justice and advocacy, which I plan on pursuing in life. I participate in Mock Trial, Model United Nations, and Moot Court. I currently am in my Justice and Advocacy Academy at Faith Lutheran. I enjoy learning, in-depth, better ways to present an argument and stand my ground. I gain a lot of experience through the many programs I participate in.

Through my varies travels, I am also fortunate enough to have exposure to different cultures and lifestyles. I have been all around the United States including, Washington State and California, to Washington DC and Massachusetts. The more I travel, the more I want to be able to uphold justice in all ways of life. I plan on continuing my travels, including outside of the country, to gain exposure and understanding of the different cultures, religions, and practices. Learning what all people have to offer around the world is one of the best things you can comprehend.

Participating in my IBIP team is something I truly enjoy and glad I am able to do. I joined recently and it is something that I want to continue doing because of the positive impact it makes in other people’s lives across the world. Being part of this team, I am able to learn more about the life and culture in Nigeria, along with tactic thinking and problem-solving. I am grateful to be part of a team with a true passion to lift others up and work for someone else. It also gives a new perspective to lives in other countries and what people can do to help.

Class of 2020

My name is Isabella Gutierrez, and I am currently a junior at Faith Lutheran High School. One of my aspirations is to travel and see the world. I want to experience the different cultures, languages, and people that this world has to offer, my goal is to complete at least a semester abroad in college. I hope to incorporate being able to communicate with Spanish and English speaking people as part of my career.

Learning and understanding the law is my passion. In my spare time, I participate in Mock Trial and Moot Court where I have competed in sixteen local, national, and global competitions. I am also involved in Trial by Peers, a local organization where I defend real-life teenagers in a court of law who commit misdemeanor crimes. While I do have a passion for law, I also have a desire to mentor and help people who are most in need. To fulfill this desire I participate in my school’s special education program where I mentor and aid students with Down Syndrome, Autism, and Williams Syndrome.

The International Business Internship Program is a partnership I am very excited to be a part of. I am eager to meet and directly impact the life of someone living on a different continent because it will give me knowledge, experience, and a new perspective that will aid me in the future. Through this program, I get the opportunity to interact and give aid to someone I never would have had the chance to meet.
