One of my main activities is playing percussion within my school’s band. I have been playing percussion since my fifth grade year and plan on continuing. Through Percussion, apart from demonstrating my capability and being a section leader within the drumline, I am involved in my schools highest ensemble.
Apart from percussion, I am also involved in both Varsity Cross Country and Track. Although both pertain to running, they couldn’t be more distant. Cross country involves me running long distances of above three miles, while Track season comprises of my transition into a Sprinter; concentrating on any and all events under a quarter mile. I also take part in my school’s chapter of the National Honor Society, volunteering countless hours at the benefit of my community. on a separate note, I also offer service at Voice for the Nameless, a club dedicated to the raising of awareness of current social issues, accomplishing this by both organizing and providing resources for events supporting LGBTQ rights, Immigrant rights, social justice, and many more.
One of my current interests include Coding, Having successfully taken and passed several programming classes and passing the AP Computer Science exam, I enjoy messing around with various game engines and platforms. In addition, I have also been involved in many engineering courses offered at my School including Computer Integrated Manufacturing, and Advanced Cad Certification. On my free time, I tend to fly quadcopters, having grown from small nano copters to bigger camera birds over the course of a couple of years. All in all, I am very excited to take part in this program and having the opportunity to help develop businesses and gathering vital experience that will separate me.
Our Business Partner: Restaurant Business
Business Owner: Deborah Obalohun
Business Location: State low cost, Opposite Kobi Cinema, Bauchi
Story of the Business
Deborah’s partnership with Leadership Initiatives’ International Business Internship Program has allowed her and her business to grow in ways she never could have imagined. Deborah is now working with International Business Internship Program teams to refine and improve her menu, expand her advertising methods, improve her customer service, and redesign the interior of her restaurant.
About the Owner: Deborah Obalohun
Deborah Obalohun had been struggling to survive and care for her five children after the death of her husband ten years ago. Working as a teacher, her low salary made it difficult to provide food and education for herself and her family. However, her passion for cooking always brought joy to herself, her family, and her friends. Because of this, she was encouraged to open up her own restaurant as an additional source of income. After a lot of hard work to save enough money, Deborah opened her own restaurant in Bauchi, Nigeria.
Deborah’s restaurant has grown from working alone in her kitchen to a stand-alone restaurant with five other employees. Currently feeding approximately 35 people a day, she hopes to open up more branches of her restaurant around the region, as well as provide catering services to events and weddings. The additional income from her restaurant has been life-saving for Deborah and her five children, as she can now provide plenty of food and pay for their education. Deborah and her business currently directly benefit 10 people in her wider community.
