Olentangy Liberty High School
International Business Internship Program
Our Life-Changing Project
Class of 2019
My name is Miliana Bocher, and I am a senior at Olentangy Liberty High School. I challenge myself academically by taking a multitude of AP classes, putting forward my best efforts in all of my endeavours. Outside of academics, I enjoy volunteering with US Together, a refugee resettlement nonprofit in Columbus, OH, where I helped run an ESL camp for the children of refugees living downtown. I have also been the leader of an International Business Internship Program group for the past three years, where my team and I work to help our Nigerian business partner, Zainab, with her yogurt-making business. I am an intern for Leadership Initiatives, where I work with Marshall Bailly on establishing and maintaining relationships with the multimillion dollar sponsors of LI programs. I am also a senior Student Mentor in charge of integrating the incoming freshmen class. Beyond this, I am both a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars, as well as being the Social Chair of my local National English Honor Society chapter. In my free time, I can generally be found talking to all kinds of people around Columbus or trying to master yet another language.

Hello! My name is Tina Lu, and I am currently a high school senior at Olentangy Liberty High School. I enjoy learning a variety of concepts, and I express this through taking challenging courses offered at my high school. I have been playing the violin for about 10 years, and I continue to play it to this day. I am in a chamber music program where every few months, each student is placed in a chamber group to either compete or simply perform for recitals. I volunteer at a myriad of places including the Ganzhorn Suites for Specialized Memory Care, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Center of Science and Industry, a science museum. I am on the board of my school’s Interact Service Club, our school’s local chapter of National Honors Society, and our chapter of Tri-M Music Honors Society. I am an active member of our Science Olympiad team as well. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to significantly change lives as a high school student. I’m truly excited about the impact that our project will have on our partners in Nigeria as well as their surrounding community.

About the Owner: Falilat Ahmed
While studying chemistry at her local university, Falilat struggled to pay for her education and find a career in the field. However, during her last year at university, Falilat discovered a new passion through a unique course: the chemistry of soap making. After completing school, she decided to follow this passion and use her education to open up a soap-making business in Bauchi, Nigeria.
After three years of business and the help of her employees, Falilat now makes a variety of liquid soaps that can be used to wash plates, cars, clothing, and other surfaces. Falilat has also partnered with local hospitals and businesses to provide soaps and detergents on a regular basis. She uses the profits from her business to pay off her remaining university costs and support her four children as a single mother. Falilat and her soap-making business currently directly benefit 7 people in her wider community.
