Palo Verde High School
International Business Internship Program
Our Life-Changing Project
Class of 2021
My name is Priya Raju, and I am a sophomore and the Project Leader of my IBIP team at Palo Verde High School. I am currently enrolled in both AP and Honors classes.
Apart from IBIP, I take part in many programs at my school such as varsity speech and debate, swim, and tennis. Lincoln-Douglas is the debate of my choice, and as of now, I have placed first in two local tournaments and advanced to quarter and semi finals in various others. When I’m not debating, I love to play tennis as the only starter of my grade level on my school’s varsity tennis team, which has acquired several state and regional titles. To satisfy my artistic side, piano has been a hobby of mine for six years now, and I am currently pursuing my level 9 of Musicianship Credentials, signifying the level at which one must be to be able to teach piano. Finally, volunteering is a huge passion of mine, as I regularly volunteer at my local hospital. I hope to become a neurologist when I grow up, combining my passion of helping others and my interest in the brain.
The majority of my extended family lives in India, many of them earning a living by advertising and selling their homemade textiles or selling the milk from the cows they have in the back of their house. This connection is what provoked me to join IBIP and help people who must provide for themselves, their families, and many others with their businesses. I was elated to hear that we would also be able to partner with local hospitals in Nigeria and immediately jumped at this opportunity. I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to work with doctors and hospitals across the globe and hopefully make a positive impact in the lives of many.
Class of 2021
My name is Laura Reyes and I am a sophomore at Palo Verde High school. I am currently enrolled in both AP and Honors classes. In my free time, I enjoy writing, watching play productions, and designing.
At my school, I am a part of Key Club, which involves volunteer work, as I volunteer every week at the Springs Preserve. It is a nature-based complex that focuses on saving the environment and educating people on the wonders of the wildlife in Las Vegas. I am also involved in Journalism and the swim team. The arts are an important part of my life as I play both the violin, the ukulele, and I am enrolled in costume design where I help with designing the theatre department’s costumes. Though I also have a great interest in psychology, that strives from my motivation to want to help others.
The International Business Internship Program is an opportunity I was so grateful to have received. In my life I have always been very timid and introverted, but this was the chance for me to be able to get more leadership skills that will help me as a person to grow. It will force me to get out of my comfort zone and being the communications chair, I will be able to talk to others without feeling stressed or anxious. Not only for this reason but the ability to make an impact on people's lives for the better is just incredible. I am very excited to embark on this journey and show how change can be made from any part of the world.
