Our Life-Changing Project
Class of 2021
I’m Kelly Bopp and I’m the college assistance chair on my IBIP team. I’m in the class of 2021 at Georgetown Visitation School. In school, I act in the play, perform in the orchestra, participate on the crew team, and do clubs such as psychology club, photography club, ski club, debate, and focus bible study.
I like reading, writing, traveling, doing art, and doing service such as tutoring kids at an organization in Alexandria, VA.
I am excited to be a part of the IBIP program to learn business, teamwork, and problem solving skills, be able to help others who need it in Nigeria, help with college, and learn new things from this experience.

Hello, my name is Hannah Dimas. I am a Sophomore at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. I am a Visi Student Ambassador. I serve as the Communications Secretary for Visitation’s Model United Nations Team. I am also active in Visitation’s Chorus, White Team Cheer, Dance Ensemble, and Gonzaga College High School's Dramatic Association. In addition to school extracurricular activities, I dance with C-Unit's Contemporary Dance Team and The Washington School of Ballet.
I volunteer for various organizations throughout the greater Washington, D.C. area such as Catholic Charities, Capital Area Food Bank, Missionaries of Charity, Bright Beginnings, Operation Turbo, Christ Child Society, Carpenter's Shelter, and the Smithsonian National Zoo. I am also involved in community engagement programs, DanceDC, C-Unit's Bridge Program, and Salsa with Silvia's Dance Scholarship Program.
I am eager to join the International Business Internship Program (IBIP) because I would like to make a difference in underserved communities. I look forward to working with Nigerian business owners to address challenges facing their communities, and to develop sustainable solutions. Our collaborative efforts will have an impact on future generations.
Class of 2021
I’m Abby Scarry and I am in 10th grade at Georgetown Visitation. At school, I participate in the visi pups club, robotics club, and best buddies. I am also part of the golf club and was manager of the basketball team freshman year and hope to continue that.
Outside of school, I am interested in art, photography, reading, and traveling. I spend most of my free time hanging out with my friends, but besides that I like to draw, read, or take photos. I am also interested in video editing and have edited videos for my middle school and my own (usually travel videos) during my free time
I am excited to join IBIP because I have never been part of something like this before and am looking forward to helping people that need us. I am also excited for the experience and everything that we will learn throughout. I hope that through IBIP, I can also discover what I am interested in.
Class of 2021
My name is Anna Porter and I am a sophomore at Georgetown Visitation. Before coming to Visitation, I played lacrosse and basketball. Unfortunately I was not good enough to play at school so I picked up golf and tennis. Now I am part of the Visitation golf club and we play almost every weekend. My favorite subjects at school are math, history and chemistry. I do not know what I want to do with the rest of my life but I would like it to go along with one of those subjects.
This year is mostly going to be about me trying to find what I’m passionate about and try out new hobbies. I like to go bike riding, read, bake and travel. I am also a part of an Irish exchange program at my school. 13 girls from Ireland are going to be coming October 12th to D.C for a week, and then a group of us are going to go to Ireland in the Spring. I am applying to be a part of a service trip to Argentina that the Spanish Department at my school is hosting. I believe that traveling is one of the most gratifying experiences life can offer and I would love to keep continuing to do so through my life.
The International Business Internship Program is an amazing opportunity that I am grateful to be a part of. I am excited to be able to talk and help organizations in Nigeria. This program is a great way to get business and life opportunity, that will be very valuable to have when we go to college.
Class of 2021
My name is Jordan Suthar. I live in Alexandria, Virginia, right outside of Washington DC. I am in 10th grade at Georgetown Visitation, which is an all girls school in Georgetown. I swim on the team for my school and in the summer. I am part of many clubs which include; psychology, golf, best buddies, think pink, and more. For service I volunteered at a vacation bible school camp over the summer and I help coach little kids winter swim.
I am very excited to join IBIP. I went to the medical program over the summer, which introduced me to the program. I love helping people, and I thought I could put some of my passion into this. I am also excited to learn more about what I can do with the rest of my life.
Class of 2021
My name is Gillian Warburton and I am currently a sophomore at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory school. I am on my school’s crew (rowing) team and am involved in many clubs.
This winter and spring, I will be doing crew for my second year on the team. We are lucky enough to row on the Potomac River along the Georgetown waterfront in Washington DC. I am also a member of the Coding club, Asian Interest club, Think Pink club, Best Buddies club, Teen Cancer Awareness club, and Marine Life Rescue club at my school. Clearly, I like to keep myself very busy. I am a part of an Irish exchange program at my school this year. Traveling and experiencing different cultures is something I am passionate about and hope to keep doing throughout my life. I hope to pursue a veterinary career when I am older as well.
International Business Internship Program interests me because of our ability to reach out to businesses in other countries and actually help to make a change. I am proud to be working with such a hard working group of girls to make a change in a country so far away!
Our Business Partner: Computer Repair
Business Owner: Abdullahi Umar
Business Location: Bauchi, Bauchi State, Nigeria
Story of the Business
Abdullahi struggled significantly in running his own business before he partnered with Leadership Initiatives and the International Business Internship Program (IBIP). However, Abdullahi now attributes his rapid growth and success to the hard work of his partner IBIP students and the support from Leadership Initiatives. He is currently working with IBIP teams to learn new detection methods of processor failures, creating OS recovery partitions, uncovering new hardware drivers, improving financial management, and expanding his advertising in the region.
About the Owner: Abdullahi Umar
Abdullahi studied health education at the University of Maiduguri when he discovered a new passion while taking a health technology course: computers. After graduating, Abdullahi found an apprenticeship at a local computer business center to pay off his university fees. His passion for computers grew, and he began to teach himself computer repair skills outside of his apprenticeship. Abdullahi decided to take his dream one step further by opening up his own computer repair business in Bauchi, Nigeria.
Despite a rough beginning, Abdullahi now owns his own storefront and employs two members of his local community. He strives to provide the most affordable and reliable computer repair and business center in Bauchi, helping to expand the technology infrastructure in the underdeveloped region. He also supports his wife and two children through the profits of his business. Abdullahi and his business currently directly benefit 10 people in his wider community.
